!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and I went autocrossing today and given the video at hand, what car would you choose and why?

The way this video works is like this: Both cars are doing the same course. For each clip of the RX8 completing a section of the course, the next clip is a Mustang doing the same section. This continues until both cars have completed the course.

FWIW I drove the Mustang and would have rather driven the RX-8 on this course.

Having driven an ‘09 GT and that exact RX8, I would definitely choose the RX8 for autocross. For most everything else, I’d take the Mustang.

Yes, me too, and all of the yes.

The 8 is a great weapon for track events like this but a decently modded Mustang with a set a cams just makes for nice weekend cruiser; as seen above. I’ve driven and rode in this 8 numerous times and from my point of view, the 8 is only fun if you’re the driver. It doesn’t command a presence to the outside world (there’s no sense of theater), and as a passenger you barely know if the driver is getting on the power or just cruising. But that’s not the point of the RX-8 now is it? No, the 8 is really a proper drivers car. I love reading literature on rotary engines as it gives me a glimpse into how much thought went into the engines in these cars that just make them so great.

RX-8s are fantastic cars but not everybody on the road knows it.

I very much like the rotary, but something about the relaxed nature of the Mustang is nice. I wouldn’t want to have to rev out the engine everyday in traffic.

That’s true. I mean with the Mustang, you can just think about fuel entering the cylinder while releasing the clutch and it’ll somehow move. Torque is a wonderful thing.

But you know, only the Renesis engine, I’ve found, want revs to get going. I’ve driven older 13b and 12a engines and they actually do surprisingly well when compared to a piston engine in regards to around town drive-ability.

After a day of playing autocross, it is nice to just crank up the AC and gently cruise off in the Mustang. The RX-8 still requires some driver effort to make things happen, and is probably why you don’t see so many old people in the 6-port Renes with the six speed. This is probably also why you see so many old people driving Mustangs...

The only rotary I have driven is roflcopter’s RX, so that’s my experience. I love it, but only if I had something else to drive. But with the last sentence of yours, it reminded me that right before I moved, our older landlord picked up an auto RX8 40th anniversary.

Ha, exactly the market the 4-port auto Renes were built for I suppose; old people.

But sadly, the auto kills what makes the engine so special.

I could imagine. I’ve never driven an auto rotary but I would assume its a very mundane slush box of sorts when given the task of handling an engine capable of 9,000 RPM.

The redline drops to 7200 rpm.
